EDUCATOR
Growth takes many forms and paths in a designer’s career, and I believe the role of design educator/mentor is one of the most impactful you can participate in. My last 3 years have been spent gaining experience in the field of higher education. As the lead Graphic Design Instructor at NSCC my focus was on creating and implementing a new Graphic Design curriculum, forming the first ever AIGA student chapter (serving as faculty advisor), fundraising and helping to promote the program with community engagement through social media channels & client partnerships.
Being an educator/mentor introduces new vision and connections not only for the students but for myself. From sharing my career experiences to helping them understand how to navigate the creative industry landscape and having conversations about equity in design, I hope that I am one of the industry leaders who are making a difference by creating opportunities to diversify the profession. I’m commitment to student success and provide support as needed whether that be as a sounding board or crafting letters of recommendation for acceptance to various institutions or applications for design positions.
As a multi-disciplinary graphic designer and content creator I am passionate about equity in the design field and I strive to create positive social impact through the practice of visual communication, graphic design, illustration, and photography. As a student I was fortunate enough to be instructed by the icons in the design profession: Paul Rand, Armin Hofmann, Richard Sapper, Micheal Glass, Tad Takano… the list goes on! I feel honored to pass on the design knowledge they shared with me and I hope it has built a strong understanding and appreciation of design.
Below are just a few samples of the fantastic work done by my students… many are ADDY Award Winners! Do I sound like a proud parent?
